It wasn't too many years later that I occasionally borrowed my Dad's old school Praktika SLR and played around with the manual controls and TTL metering. I even got an old hand-me-down Canon - although that relied on a separate light-meter - hence the other image of me, below, with the light-meter dangling from the strap. It wasn't long after this that the black plastic revolution hit the mass market SLRs and the Canon EOS1000 epitomised that shift. Dad had it for a while, but gave it to me as he progressed on to early digitals. It did the job, but I did found the controls to be quite plasticy. Never had a manual focus ring been so unappealing.
